CAE ENGINEER FOR CRASH MATERIAL MODELLING (m/f/d)

Hamburg

Welcome to encass GmbH!

We bridge the gap between pioneering technology, digital innovation, and first-class service. Yet, what truly drives us isn't just processes and algorithms—it’s the people behind them. We firmly believe that outstanding results are achieved only when personal appreciation is put into practice and every voice counts. A work atmosphere that brings out the best in each of us forms the foundation of our shared success.

With your expertise, you will penetrate directly to the core of our customers' methodological competence, by actively improving the precise prediction of the crash behavior of innovative aerospace components, thereby drastically reducing physical testing efforts. Through your pioneering work, you will lay the digital foundation from which future calculation engineers will sustainably benefit.

Your Tasks

  1. You will develop, validate, and implement advanced numerical methods for explicit finite element simulation.
  2. This includes deriving and calibrating strain-rate-dependent material maps for high-elasticity steels, aluminum, plastics, and composites.
  3. You will integrate sophisticated damage and fracture models (e.g., GISSMO, Johnson-Cook) into crash simulations to realistically model material failure.
  4. You will plan and coordinate physical laboratory tests (e.g., high-speed tensile tests, pendulum tests) in collaboration with testing laboratories and prepare the test data for reverse engineering.
  5. You will also optimize the material map creation workflow through scripting and the use of optimization software.
  6. You will advise the crash simulation team on the use of new material models and ensure the quality of the central material database.

Your Profile

  1. You hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  2. You possess sound knowledge of nonlinear, explicit FEM analysis (e.g., using LS-Dyna, PAM-Crash, or RADIOSS).
  3. You have a deep understanding of material cards und are versed in continuum mechanics, plasticity theory, strain rate dependencies, and the phenomenology of material damage and failure.
  4. Ideally, you have experience with optimization and calibration tools such as LS-OPT or VALIMAT, as well as proficient programming skills in Python, Matlab, or shell scripting for process automation.
  5. Fluency in German and English provide for a smooth communication with your internal and external partners.
